Plastic, synthetic, and harsh cleansers are taking their toll on our environment. Finding an Eco-safe shower curtain is possible. So throw away those paper towels that were made from virgin trees and lets explore the concept of Eco-safe shower curtains. You can make the switch to an Eco-safe bathroom and it really doesn't require any major changes. There are many more environmentally conscious alternatives coming on the market daily. The ones that have gotten the most attention are the natural baskets, towels made from organic cotton, biodegradable cleansers and recycled toilet paper. One of the key accessories that are barely getting a mention is the Eco-safe shower curtain.

History Of The Environmentally Shower Curtain
The swing to all things Environmentally safer has been around a while but in 2008 a report showed how devastating the simple shower curtain was to the environment. Shower curtains are being made from "PVC" and are being made with this material by some of the biggest name brands in the country. It was shown that the materials in these shower curtains emit harmful chemical gases into the atmosphere. Though it has not been banned, yet, you can find some manufactures making them from safer for all.

What Shower Curtains Are Safe For The Environment

If what you want is vinyl you can find some shower curtains that are made from a nontoxic form known as PEVA. This material has no chloride or other harmful chemicals. Se this as a liner behind an organic fabric and your bathroom will not only look good but also be safer for you and the environment.

Using natural fabrics in your bathroom makes a green bathroom no longer a dream but a reality. You can find shower curtains made of Flax-Linen that is beautiful and durable. These can take a lot of machine washing and still hold their shape and look good. You can go one step further and get the kind that is pesticide free as well.

Another choice that will make the planet smile is using shower curtains made from re-cycled polyester. Polyester is a man made fabric that is naturally water-resistant. It is soft and dries very quickly. This also reduces the chance for mold and mildew in your bathroom.

Believe it or not the truth is you can make a great fabric from the hemp plant. These fabrics already have a great reputation in with the environmentally friendly crowd. This porous fiber directs and absorbs water. Each time you wash these very strong fibers they get softer.

These alternatives to vinyl shower curtains have the same quality features you find in their counterparts. You can find them in all the standard sizes and even some that are made wider for those great old claw foot tubs.

Final though on this is that you will have to pay a little bit more for those organic fibers. If you cannot afford those consider giving the PEVA made vinyl shower curtains a try.
