Shower curtains can be simple and inexpensive to make as a DIY project. The liner from the old curtain can remain since you will need one.
Changing the entire look and feel of the room with only a few bits of cloth is as easy as knowing how to use a glue gun or sewing machine. This comes in especially handy if you happen to have an odd sized bath.
The trick here is to get the materials for the new curtains on sale. You are looking at enough material to cover an area of about 74 x 84. This will work well for tall showers and even if you have a standard sized shower the extra cloth can be used to make a nice wastebasket cover to match the shower curtain.
Fabrics go one sale all of the time especially at discount stores. You may even be able to get a large enough remnant at a fabric store for dirt-cheap. You have to measure it out, cut to the length and width you need for each panel. Then you can sew a hem around all of the edges or use hemming tape and an iron.
Using a glue gun you can add ribbons and other adornments as you see fit. The top edge of the shower curtain is where the real work is getting the holes just so. Measure off he space for the ring slits and mark them. You will make them just as you would a buttonhole. Just take a pair of scissors and cut and opening wherever you have made a mark. You can use a decorative matching adhesive tape to seal the edges of these holes.
For more drama in the bathroom and to keep the color scheme going through out the bathroom use bits of the fabric as adornments. If you Have enough you can make a full cover for the wastebasket. All you will need is a bit of elastic. Make a fold in the cloth around the top and bottom. Cut the elastic 1/2inch shorter than the fabric. Mold the flap over the elastic and glue to seal. Using a needle and some thread, or the sewing machine sew the sides of the cover together. You will also have to pull the two ends of the elastic at the top and bottom out and connect them. Now you are ready to slip the cover on the existing wastebasket.
You have created a whole new look for your bathroom from the shower curtain to the decorations. This can be done all in one afternoon. That leaves time for any other small DIY projects you may have in mind.
Making your own shower curtains can be a very fun project. Redecorating has its little rewards. You might even make it a family affair and let the children help. They really do love to make crafts you know. Here's to you and making your new shower curtain.
